    What is Maturity?

    Posted by Mindblade16 - October 7th, 2024

There is an impulse to associate Age with Maturity.

    Here's why this is wrong.

    Maturity is gained through Socialization.

Maturity isn't a permenent progression of bricks, but a volitile standard to maintain.

A Volatile Standard is kept up, but only actively. It decays immediately upon resting or idling.

If you are 50 years old, and you Self-Isolate for years, you may get treated like a Teenager in a Social Group when you finally get back to socializing, because that's what the others in your group recognize you as.

This gets worse if you assert your age as proof of your tenured maturity, even though maturity doesn't have a tenured rank, because tenure isn't volatile.

The only ones to assert that they are adults are teenagers, so that's two hits to your charisma.

All you can do is slowly level your maturity to higher levels by actively practicing your socialization again. If you want to be treated like an elder, you don't get a break for quite a while, depending on the chaotic nature of the dynamic on offer here.

You have to maintain a level of maturity, because it will fade with neglect, and atrophy.

You may find yourself in a scenario where someone half your age exceeds your maturity level, because they are in a place of discipline, and you have let yourself go, believing yourself tenured by your age.
